Some of you may remember that back in September, Leo Burnett announced its entry into Second Life.
At the time, the Leo entry was limited to a small, static apple tree, with a sign saying "future home of the Leo Burnett Ideas Hub." To be honest, it was a bit underwhelming (especially in light of the amount of press it received); it was really more of a placeholder than a destination. But in the months since then, a team from Millionsofus & Leo Burnett London has been diligently building that hub, and as of a few weeks ago it's finally up and running. To kick it off, Jim Stengel started his speech at the recent AAAA media conference with a quick fly-through of it.
By all reports the hub was worth the wait. The SL Herald calls it "stunning and a delight", and MIT Adverlab is calling it "easily one of the most imaginative brand landmarks in SL." If you're so inclined, here's the SLUrl. I should say I haven't actually visited it yet: my laptop suddenly died a "blue screen of death" few weeks ago, and while it's in the shop I'm pecking away on a temporary replacement that dates from pre-Cambrian times (well, maybe 2004) and won't run the SL program.
Now as an aside, does anyone still care about Second Life? After a flurry last fall, no one seems to be talking about it anymore. Are the heady days over already? I feel slightly like I'm talking about the Spice Girls or capri pants. I wonder if there are lots of empty hotels and car dealerships with tumbleweed avatars blowing through. We really do get bored with stuff quickly.
