Judging a book by its cover

Taking a page from Adidas' Adicolor and the recent Beck album do-it-yourself cover art, Penguin Books (in the UK) has released a series of six classics with blank covers made of art-quality paper, so you can create your own cover.  And of course you can submit your work back to Penguin and have it featured on their website.

I wonder when this trend will reach a saturation point and stop being interesting.  Because I'm beginning to envision a world in the not-too-distant future when all products will be sold with blank packaging so we can all customize our products and be individual all the time.  And how boring would that be?
